Brisbane Travel Information

Brisbane Airport is the third busiest airport in Australia, following Melbourne and Sydney. The airport provides service to 46 destinations throughout Australia, and 32 destinations worldwide. Low cost flights on TigerAir,Jetstar and its parent company Qantas, as well as Virgin Australia, all provide service to Sydney and Melbourne. In fact, the routes of Brisbane to Sydney and Brisbane to Melbourne are amongst the busiest (by passenger numbers) in the world.

Airport Facilities and Services

The airport facilities include an array of transport options including valet parking, transportation between terminals, domestic and international parking, and pick-up areas. Airtrain provides transportation between the international and domestic airport terminals, transport to and from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Their service runs seven days a week.

Con-x-ion provides door-to-door or one way service from Brisbane Airport, and is available for every flight arriving in Brisbane. Car rental service for international flights is located on the second level, and on the first level for domestic flights. The airport is located approximately 30 minutes from Brisbane.

Brisbane is a city brimming with arts and culture, activities for the family, nature and wildlife, exciting attractions, great restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife scene. South Bank Street Beach is perfect for swimming and picnicking. The Queensland Art Gallery is kid-friendly, and the Sciencentre has interactive exhibits. Experience an array of free arts and culture. City Sounds is free to the public and provides up and coming musicians with a place to perform, and hosts national and international companies. Brisbane Powerhouse at New Farm presents indie and rock bands.

The Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art provides free programs and exhibitions all year. The Queensland Museum also provides educational exhibits, free to the public. Cultural festivals are presented all year. They include the Friday Night Laneways and Valley Fiesta, South Bank Young Designers Market, and BrisAsia Festival.

A great way to spend the day is to take a cruise to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. On the cruise you'll see historic sites and habitats of native wildlife, or go on the exciting, Story Bridge Adventure Climb to the summit, 80 metres high, for panoramic views of Brisbane and the Scenic Rim.

Shopping, Dining, and Nightlife

Paddington, The City, the top shopping destination in Brisbane with over 1,000 shops, and Fortitude Valley, have anchor stores, designer and vintage fashions, antiques, and collectibles. Make sure to attend the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane. Gourmet grocers offer a selection of handmade crafts by local artisans, local produce, and gourmet foods.

The dining scene in Brisbane offers a wide array of culinary experiences. The City District has an array of good coffee houses and cafes. M&A Lane has bars and restaurants that serve local dishes and international cuisine. Papa Jack's, a hot nightspot, is a New Orleans-style bar.

Outdoor dining is a fun option when you're visiting Brisbane. Enjoy spectacular views of the city from one of the rooftop bars, or enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner at one of the riverfront restaurants. Brisbane even has a number of restaurants and cafes that serve organic and vegetarian dishes for the health conscious.

Places to Stay

Hotels in Brisbane are lower cost than you might anticipate. The Central Business District, Inner Brisbane, the outer suburbs of the city, and even Moreton Island, are all options.
