Aerolineas Argentinas

Aerolineas Argentina was established in 1929. The name at that time was AEROPOSTA- An airmail Service. Two well known French aviators, Jean Mermoz and Antoine De Saint-Exupery began this service. The airline under the name Aerolineas Argentina began in 1950. The hub airport is Ministro Pistarini International Airport, located in Ezeiza, a suburb of Buenos Aires. The other major hub airport for the airline is Luis Mu?oz International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Under the leadership of Moreno Pacheco, head of the airline, this move was made to make the group one of the biggest airlines in Latin America, going toe-to-toe with American Airlines Caribbean service.

Groupo Marsans of Spain bought the airline in 2001. In 2008, the reversion to state ownership process began. This was a major item of discussion during the February 2009 visit by the Argentine head of State during her visit to Madrid.
