Air India
Tata Sons,Ltd., now known as Tata Group started Air India on 15 October, 1932.Mr. J.R.D. Tata flew a postal mail flight concession of Imperial Airways from Drigh Road Aerodrome in Karachi (now Pakistan), to Ahmedabad and ending at Juhu Airstrip in Bombay. Air India began as Tata Airlines. The Indian government exercised it's option to purchase a majority ownership in Air India and on 1 August, 1953 Air India International,Ltd was born. In 1970, Air India moved corporate offices into a gleaming glass and steel high-rise to decorate the downtown Mumbai skyline. Air India's primary hub is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. Secondary hub for Air India is Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The Delhi International Airport Ltd., Airport Authority of India and Air India are gearing up for use of the new Terminal three (3) in time for the 2010 Commonwealth games.
