Air Tahiti Nui was established in 1996. Flight operations for Air Tahiti Nui commenced in 1998 and is certfied under the French Civil Aviation Authority. Internationally, Air Tahiti Nui is recognized as a French Airline. Unlike Air Tahiti, Air Moorea, or Air Archipels, Air Thiti Nui is a jet service carrier. From Faa'a International Airport on the Island of Tahiti, Air Tahiti Nui links French Polynesia with four continents. The airlines major shareholder is the French Polynesian Government. Air Tahiti Nui is the self-declared international airline of Tahiti.

Reservations for Air Tahiti Nui are hosted by SABRE, the automation system developed by AMR Corp. of Dallas, Texas, U.S.A. . All Air Tahiti Nui crew members are fluent in French, English, and Tahitian. If the crew is working a Japanese route, this crew is required to be fluent in Japanese as well.

As Tahiti Nui has corporate headquarters in Papeete, Tahiti. In Australia, reservations and tickets are vendored C/o World Aviation Systems, Sydney, New South Wales.
