"Maeva and Welcome", is the greeting extended by Air Tahiti. Air Tahiti, a private French Polynesian company, began in 1958, with the name Air Polynesie. Pryor to this it flew under the name RAI Inter-Island Airline network. It was 1986 when the name Air Tahiti appeared. As part of Air Tahiti's mission statement, the airline is "an engine for the economic and social development of the Archipelagoes (the Air Tahiti mission statement)."
