Get Free Flights Faster with Virgin Velocity Credit Cards

By Gath Adams on 14/Apr/2014

Using Virgin Australia Velocity Rewards is a great travel hack that can help you to fly further and travel more often. The average Australian puts a whopping $16,000 per year on their credit card, which would earn the equivalent of 1.54 flights between Sydney and Melbourne.

Virgin Airlines has partnerships with almost all major banks on the market, including NAB, American Express and more. But which Virgin Australia Velocity credit card is the best one to use to gather your points? Let’s take a look at three of the top contenders.

American Express Velocity Escape Card

The American Express Velocity Escape Card.

When American Express teamed up with Velocity Frequent Flyer, it meant that Australians no longer needed to pay credit card fees in order to earn points – which is a huge advantage.

Another perk of this card is that you can earn one Velocity Point for every dollar spent, as well as 7,500 bonus points for signing up. This is the equivalent to one flight from Melbourne to Sydney.

Also, there is no limit to the number of Velocity Points that you can earn – your points are just transferred to your Velocity Account every month and can be used for everything from car hires to accommodations and more.

Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer Card

This card provided by Virgin Money offers 1.25 Velocity Points with every dollar that you spend – uncapped. The higher amount of points per dollar spent is balanced out by the annual fee of $289. This card also offers transit accident insurance and complimentary international travel insurance.

Another bonus is that if you spend $10,000 on your card within three months of its approval, you will receive an extra 10,000 in bonus points. Not too shabby.

This prestigious credit card even offers a round-the-clock Platinum Concierge Service which can assist you with booking travel, arranging tickets and simply finding what you need anywhere in the world.

NAB Velocity Rewards Card

the NAB Velocity Rewards Card.

This card from the National Australia Bank offers a 20,000-point bonus just for signing up, as well as seven different complimentary insurances including overseas travel insurance.

You will be able to earn Velocity reward points for only a $65 annual fee. The card offers 0.5 points per dollar spent on Visa and 1 point per dollar spent with Amex – and you can link the two different cards to the one account. The choice of two different cards means that you can enjoy the maximum points earning of American Express or the worldwide acceptance of Visa – whichever works best for you.

These are just three of the best credit cards that you can use to earn Virgin Velocity points with your purchases, which will hopefully help you enjoy your next getaway for free. But there are plenty of other ways to save cash on flights.
