Cathay Pacific was founded 24 September, 1946 by Australian, Sydney de Kantzow and American Ray Ferrell. Cathay Pacific is The flagship airline and is hubed in Hong Kong. The airline was formed when Hong Kong was still a territory of the United Kingdon of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Cathay Pacific uses tasteful, yet alluring models to market the airlines services. Asia Miles is the name of Cathay Pacific's frequent flier program, with the club being named Marco Polo. Dragonair and Air Hong Kong (HK) are subsidiaries of Cathay Pacific. Cathay is a OneWorld alliance member.

The name 'Cathay' is the medieval name use for the land we now know as China, derived from "Khitan" and "Pacific" because Farrell, one of the airlines founders speculated one day they would commercially fly across the Pacific. Cathay Pacific Airways now serves 114 passenger and air-freight destinations.
