South African Airways
South African Airways is South Africa's largest domestic and international airline. It's also known in Afrikaans as Suid-Afrikaanse Lugdiens ( SAL ), though this variation of the name no longer appears on the airline's livery. In March 2002, under Manager Andre Viljoen, South African Airways asked Airbus Industrie to overhaul its fleet at a price of $3.5 bln. SAA made use of a slump in the order books of the airplane makers ( Boeing and Airbus ). SAA was in a buyers market and with the passing of Swissair, which had A340-600's on the point of being delivered, made a massive effect on Airbus clinching the SAA deal.
