Getting to central Rome from Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO)

Fiumicino Airport is about 30 km south-west of central Rome, on the coast near the town of Fiumicino. The train is the most reliable way in, as road traffic into the city can be slow.

  • Leonardo Express is a non-stop train from the airport to Roma Termini, taking about 30 minutes. Trains run every 15 to 30 minutes. The station is under Terminal 3. If you arrive at Terminal 1, a short covered walkway connects to the same building.
  • Regional train (FL1) is a slower but cheaper alternative, stopping at Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana and Tiburtina in about 45 to 55 minutes. It does not go to Termini, but Ostiense connects to Metro Line B (Piramide station). Useful if your hotel is near one of those stops. Runs every 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Airport buses (Terravision, SIT and others) run from outside Terminal 3 to the east side of Roma Termini, taking 45 to 55 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Taxis operate on a fixed fare for journeys within the historic centre. The fare covers tolls and luggage. Only use licensed white taxis from the official rank.

Roma Termini connects to Metro Line A and Line B, so most parts of the city are reachable from there.
