Getting to Patong Beach from Phuket International Airport (HKT)

Phuket Airport is at the northern tip of the island, about 35 km from Patong Beach and 32 km from Phuket Town. There is no rail link anywhere on the island, so all transport is by road.

  • Phuket Smart Bus is the only true public bus service. It runs south along the west coast from the airport to Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai. It runs on a flat fare. Journey time to Patong is about 90 minutes. The bus departs near Exit 3 and runs from about 8:15 am to 11:30 pm.
  • Grab has an approved pickup zone outside Exit 8 of the international terminal. The fare is set in the app before you confirm. This is the most convenient option if you want a private ride without negotiating.
  • Metered taxis are available from the official stand. An airport surcharge applies on top of the meter. Allow about 50 to 60 minutes to Patong.
  • Shared minivans can be booked at desks in the arrivals hall. Cheaper than a private taxi for solo travellers but you may wait for the van to fill.

Do not accept ride offers from drivers who approach you inside the terminal. Use the official taxi counter or Grab.
