Getting to central Athens from Athens International Airport (ATH)

Athens Airport is about 33 km east of the city centre. The metro, express bus and suburban train all run into town, so you have options at most hours.

• Metro (Line 3) runs direct from the airport to Syntagma Square in about 40 minutes. Trains depart roughly every 30 minutes from about 6:30 am to 11:30 pm. Buy the airport-specific ticket at the machines in the station, as it costs more than a standard city fare. Contactless bank cards also work at the gates.
• Express bus X95 runs 24 hours a day to Syntagma Square, making it the only public transport option overnight. Journey time is about 60 minutes in light traffic but can stretch beyond 90 minutes in peak hour. The stop is outside arrivals between exits 4 and 5.
• Suburban train (Proastiakos) connects to Larissa Station (the main rail hub) in about 45 minutes, with up to two trains per hour on weekdays. You can transfer to Metro Line 3 at Doukissis Plakentias on the same ticket.
• Taxis operate on a fixed flat fare from the airport, with a higher rate between midnight and 5 am. The flat fare includes tolls and luggage. Only use taxis from the official rank outside arrivals.
