Getting to central Singapore from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)

Changi Airport is about 20 km east of the city centre. Singapore's public transport is clean, reliable and well signposted, making the MRT the standard choice for most travellers.

  • MRT (East-West Line) departs from Changi Airport station. Change at Tanah Merah (two stops) to a westbound train for the city. City Hall takes about 32 minutes, Raffles Place about 34 minutes. Trains run from around 5:30 am to midnight. You can tap on with a contactless Visa, Mastercard or Amex bank card via SimplyGo, so no separate transit card is needed.
  • Bus 36 runs from all terminals to the city via Suntec City, City Hall and Orchard Road. Cheaper than the MRT but slower at 50 to 70 minutes. Luggage space is limited.
  • Taxis queue at ranks in each terminal arrivals hall. The drive to the city centre takes 20 to 30 minutes. Airport and late-night surcharges apply.
  • Grab is Singapore's main rideshare app and can be cheaper than a metered taxi, especially when surcharges apply. Pick up from signposted zones at each terminal.

If you arrive at Terminal 4, note that it is a separate building from Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Take the free inter-terminal shuttle bus to Terminal 2 to reach the MRT station.
