Getting to central Mumbai from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM)

Mumbai Airport is about 25 km north of South Mumbai (Colaba, Marine Drive, Fort). Road traffic can be brutal, but the new Metro Line 3 now runs underground from both terminals to South Mumbai in about 40 to 45 minutes, regardless of traffic.

• Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) has stations at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Trains run every 5 minutes during peak hours from about 5:55 am to 10:30 pm. Key stops include BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex), Dadar, Mumbai Central, CSMT and Churchgate. This is now the fastest and cheapest way to South Mumbai.
• Prepaid taxis are available from counters inside the arrivals hall at both terminals. You pay at the counter and receive a slip with the driver and vehicle details. The ride to South Mumbai takes 40 to 50 minutes off-peak but can stretch beyond two hours in rush hour (8 to 11 am and 5 to 9 pm).
• Uber and Ola pick up from designated zones outside the terminals. Surge pricing is common late at night and during peak hours, when the prepaid counter is often the better deal.

The airport has two terminals about 4 km apart with no airside connection. A free shuttle bus runs between them every 20 minutes, but allow at least 90 minutes if you need to transfer. If you are driving, the Western Express Highway connects to the city. The Bandra-Worli Sea Link is tolled.
