Getting to central Sydney from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD)

Sydney Airport is about 9 km south of the CBD, and it's one of the few Australian airports with a train line into town. The international terminal (T1) and domestic terminals (T2 and T3) are in separate precincts about ten minutes apart by road, so check which one you're using before planning the next leg.

  • Train is the quickest way in: Airport Link stations sit under both the international and domestic terminals, with services to Central Station in about 13 minutes from the domestic terminals or 18 from T1, and trains every few minutes for most of the day. A station access fee applies on top of the normal Opal fare.
  • Taxis queue at ranks outside every terminal. The CBD run takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Rideshare services like Uber and Didi pick up from signposted zones at each terminal.
  • The budget route is the 420 bus to Mascot or Rockdale Station, continuing by train. It takes longer but avoids the airport station access fee.
  • Terminal transfers are one train stop between T1 and the domestic side, or use the T-Bus transfer service.

Trains run from around 5 am until about midnight. If you land later than that, you're down to taxis and rideshare.

If you're driving, the Eastern Distributor into the city is tolled northbound. General Holmes Drive along the bay is the toll-free alternative.
