Getting to central Bangkok from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK)

Suvarnabhumi Airport is about 30 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link is the fastest way into the city, avoiding Bangkok's notoriously slow road traffic.

  • Airport Rail Link departs from the basement of the terminal (follow the signs to Train to City). The City Line takes about 30 minutes to Phaya Thai, where you can transfer to the BTS Skytrain for Sukhumvit and Silom. Change at Makkasan for the MRT subway (a covered walkway to Phetchaburi station, about five minutes). Trains run every 10 to 15 minutes from about 5:30 am to midnight. You can tap on with a contactless bank card.
  • Metered taxis use an official queue system on Level 1. Use the kiosk, take the printed slip, and go to the assigned bay. Always insist on the meter. There is an airport surcharge on top of the fare, and you pay any expressway tolls during the trip. Allow 30 to 45 minutes to central Bangkok.
  • Grab operates from a designated pickup zone on Level 1 (Gate 4). The fare is locked in before you confirm, so there is no meter negotiation.

Do not accept flat-fare offers from drivers who approach you inside the terminal. If a taxi driver refuses to use the meter, walk away and rejoin the kiosk queue.
