Getting to central Dhaka from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC)

Hazrat Shahjalal Airport is about 17 km north of central Dhaka. There is no direct rail link to the terminal. Dhaka's traffic is among the worst in the world, so travel times vary wildly. A trip to Gulshan takes 20 to 30 minutes off-peak but can stretch past 90 minutes in rush hour.

• Uber and Pathao are the most practical options for first-time visitors. Both operate from the airport 24 hours a day. The fare is set in the app, removing the need to negotiate. Make sure you have mobile data or connect to airport Wi-Fi before booking.
• Prepaid taxis are available from a counter in the arrivals hall. You pay a fixed fare based on your destination zone before leaving the building.
• CNG auto-rickshaws (green three-wheelers) are cheaper but you must negotiate the fare. They fit two to three passengers with limited luggage space and are not ideal for first-timers.
• MRT Line 6 does not reach the airport directly, but the Uttara North station is a short taxi or CNG ride away. From there, trains run south through the city to Motijheel. A direct airport metro line (Line 1) is under construction but not expected before 2030.
