Getting to central Jakarta from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK)

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is about 20 km north-west of central Jakarta, in the city of Tangerang. Traffic into Jakarta is heavy for much of the day, so road travel can take well over an hour at peak times.

• Airport train (KA Bandara) runs from the airport station (between Terminals 1 and 2, reached via a free Skytrain) through Duri and BNI City to Manggarai in around 50 minutes. It is unaffected by road traffic and the most reliable option for reaching the city core.
• DAMRI buses depart from each terminal to points across Jakarta including Gambir Station, Blok M and Kampung Rambutan. They are frequent and cheap, but share the same congested roads as everything else.
• Taxis: use the official metered-taxi counters inside the terminal building. Bluebird is the most reputable operator. Avoid touts in the arrivals hall.
• Ride apps: Grab and Gojek operate from designated pick-up zones outside the terminals. Book through the app to see the fare before committing.

Note that CGK serves Jakarta and the wider Jabodetabek region. A separate airport, Halim Perdanakusuma (HLP), handles some domestic and charter flights from the city's east side.
