Hobart Travel Information
Hobart is the capital of the Australian state of Tasmania. It was founded in the year 1804 and is the second oldest city, coming in right after Sydney in New South Wales. The 2013 population of the city was 217,973 and is located in the estuary of the Derwent River. Hobart is also the administrative and financial centre of the state and the central port of Antarctic undertakings, which brings in over AU$180 per year. The wine industry, shipbuilding and tourism also play a big part in Hobart’s economics, with the summer season a big time for cruise ships coming through.
Hobart AirportHobart International Airport is located in Cambridge, a little less than 10 miles northeast of Hobart. There are many flights available for domestic passengers. The four major airlines that serve these flights all make trips to Melbourne Airport, and all of the airlines use narrow-body aircraft. Because of its location, Hobart International has frequent flights from Skytraders to Antarctica. Hobart Airport has customs and immigrations for entering flights, though it does not have regularly scheduled outbound international flights itself.
At the airport, there are lots of shops to visit while passengers wait for their flight. Food, drinks, retail shops, gift stores and more will make time pass quickly. Some of the shops include the 1848 Espresso Bar, Villa & Hut Kafé, Abbott’s and Dome. From coffee to candy, from books to presents, there’s something for everyone at Hobart International Airport.
