Perth Travel Information

Located on the western coast of Australia, Perth is the fourth largest city on the continent. Although the area was inhabited by native populations for years, the first British colony was founded in 1829. The colony grew over the years, and the city of Perth was officially recognized by the British government in 1856. Now there are about 1.97 million residents living in the city. Perth has been thoroughly developed, boasting an impressive business district and a bustling port along the Swan River. Despite its booming population, Perth is a relatively isolated city, and there are no other major metropolitan areas for over 1000 miles.

Things To Do In Perth

As the only major city on the western seaboard, it is no surprise that Perth has plenty to offer. Perth is a major cultural hub with a wide range of museums, galleries, performance centers and universities. In particular, Perth is home to the Art Gallery of Western Australia and the Black Swan State Theatre Company. The Scitech Discovery Centre is especially well regarded thanks to its highly interactive exhibits and live demonstrations. To better understand the area's connection with the sea, the Western Australia Maritime Museum is an excellent destination.

Perth also has numerous recreational opportunities, starting with a wealth of shopping options. Many people consider the best shopping to be on Murray Street and Hay Street, and there are other venues throughout the city. Some people also enjoy visiting the Swan Valley, which has a number of wineries and microbreweries. Kings Park is also of particular interest. The sprawling grounds include various landmarks and the Western Australian Botanic Garden.
